  • TELEWORK NEWS! - Virginia Department of Tax Expands Telework Initiative in Southside Virginia. Read the Press Release

    December 5, 2007, Tax Commission Janie Bowen announced today that the Department of Taxation is looking for 30 new employees in the Danville-Martinsville area to serve as data-entry operators during the agency's busy tax-filing season. The selected applicants will work from home with computer equipment provided by TAX.

    This is the second phase of the agency's effort to create more telework jobs in Virginia and also bring new jobs to areas of high unemployment.

    "We were very successful finding qualified employees in the Danville-Martinsville area during the first phase of our remote-worker initiative and we look forward to increasing our telework force through this second phase of hiring," said Tax Commissioner Janie Bowen.

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced a partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia, Comcast Cable, and Cox Communications that will make it easier and more convenient for Virginians to prepare for General Educational Development (GED)® Tests.

“GED® ON DEMAND provides convenience and flexibility for adults who want to increase their income potential by earning a GED®,” said Governor Kaine. “With GED® ON DEMAND, adult learners can view instructional videos at home that will help them prepare for the GED® at times that fit their busy schedules.”

 

TELEWORK NEWS! - Virginia Department of Tax Announces Telework Initiative in Southside Virginia. Read the Press Release

Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced a new Department of Taxation telework program in the Danville/Martinsville region. The 25 new employees, who will work from home with equipment and Internet connections provided by the Tax Department, recently began 12 weeks of training in Martinsville to prepare for their positions.

  • “The Department of Taxation has been a leader in state government in shifting a large number of its employees to working from home at least one day a week, and this southwest Virginia effort is an extension of that,” said Governor Kaine.
